Senior Management Team
There is a strong Management team at Meadowbank school. Both the Junior (0-2 years) and the Senior site (3-6 years) has a Deputy Principal and an Associate Principal.
Principal: Peter Ayson
Peter was appointed Principal in 1998. Prior to that he was Principal at Marina View School, a large, decile 10, full primary (Y 1 – 8) school in the Hobsonville / West Harbour area. He has also held Principalship positions in Karaka, New Lynn and North Otago. He has taught at all levels from Years 2 to 8.
Peter studied at Auckland and Massey Universities as well as the Auckland College of Education. His curriculum strengths are in the areas of Science, English / Reading and Physical Education / Sport / Outdoor Education.
Peter’s recreational interests have seen him as a NZ swimming representative as well as participating at various levels in water polo, white water kayaking, basketball and table tennis.
Peter has two adult children. He has experienced and understands the trials and tribulations parents go through in bringing up school aged children and he has a deep empathy with the strains parents of special needs students experience.
Deputy Principal: Moira Blair
Moira came to the Meadowbank team in 2011. She currently oversees the operations of the Year 5-6 levels as well as leading school-wide assessments and delivery of the maths curriculum.
Moira completed her training at Auckland University, gaining both a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma of Teaching. She began her teaching career at Cornwall Park School before heading off on her OE. Moira taught for four years in London and a further two years at an international school in Hong Kong. Returning to New Zealand in 2005, Moira taught at Edendale Primary School where she was a team leader, head of mathematics and ICT. She completed her Master of Education with first class honours in 2009.
Moira has a son who attends Meadowbank School.
Assistant Principal: Matt Aukett
Matt joined Meadowbank in 2016 after spending five years at Auckland Normal Intermediate School as a classroom teacher and Associate Principal. He has also taught at Remuera Primary and Pukekohe Hill School. Prior to training as a teacher Matt was the Head Teacher of a language school in South Korea and initially trained as an outdoor pursuits instructor holding a range of senior instructor roles with various outdoor organisations
Matt has a Bachelor of Arts degree, a graduate teaching diploma and a diploma in outdoor recreation leadership. His academic interests include Education Outside the Classroom, inquiry based teaching, innovative learning and the use of ICT. Matt oversees the Year 3-4 levels.
Assistant Principal: Jane Butel
Jane joined the Meadowbank team in 2010 as a Year 2 classroom teacher. Since then she has been promoted through several leadership roles including Team Leader for both Year 1 and Year 2, and she was appointed Associate Principal overseeing New Entrant – Year 2 classes in 2016.
After completing her Bachelor of Education at the University of Otago, Jane began her teaching career at Orakei School. She then did her OE which included teaching in the UK for 2 years. Jane trained as a Reading Recovery teacher and has had responsibility for ICT, Maori Education and Environmental Education. Along with Matt, Jane is leading the staff’s professional learning towards the implementation of Innovative Learning practices across our school.
