The Orchard 2007
Our orchard is on the Junior side of the gully. This project came from the Year 1 and 2 topic, “What’s in your lunchbox?” As a way of understanding more about healthy food children wanted to grow their own. A sunny bank was chosen. All the junior school classes were surveyed to find their favourite fruit. Each class has been involved in planting, bananas, mandarins, plums, strawberries, passionfruit, feijoas, grapes and a cape gooseberry. The worm farmers feed the plants worm tea and the flower gardeners make cuttings of lavender and rosemary to attract bees for pollination. So far we’ve had lots of strawberries that the kids get to pick. The scarecrows designed by Room 29 have kept the birds away!
Room 3 have designed a water recycling system which we will install to keep the orchard watered over the summer.
