SPECIAL PROGRAMMES

Besides the core curriculum, Meadowbank offers a wide variety of special programmes to cater for and challenge our students. these include:-

Gifted and Talented/Challenge Programme
We like to think we can see the special light which shines within our students.   Gifted and Talented students are catered for both in class ability groups and by withdrawal programmes.  There may be a small charge for students selected for these programmes.

Special Needs
Children with special learning needs are identified very early and given programmes appropriate to their need.  In the most severe cases this mayinvolve individual or small group assistance.  The limited funding received from the Ministry of Education is used to fund extra Special Needs teacher and teacher aide hours.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
International students and students with New Zealand residency who are learning to speak English as an additional language receive extra support through small group instruction. Learning support is funded by the Ministry of Education for students with New Zealand residency, provided they meet the set criteria.

Music
Our music specialist teachers (Tony Ramsay / Mary Smol) works with all classes as well as developing the choir, orchestra, chamber and rock groups.  Two groups use the school facilites to provide individual and small group tuition for a wide variety of instruments.

Phys Ed / Sport

Our specialist teacher, Courtney Read, leads skill development with all classes and their teachers. Sports is developmentally introduced so that by Year 5 all students are involved in inter-school sport. Children also have many opportunities to participate in extra-curricular sports

Computers
We employ a speicalist teacher, Mr David Kinane to help deliver some amazing programmes and to lead staff professional development in the area of Information  Technology.  Although there is more focus on senior classes, all students will visit the computer suite.

Library
We are particularly proud of our two fully computerised Libraries.  All students visit the Library regularly and are assisted by our Librarian, Mrs Sarah Caldwell.
