Mission Statement

Guiding Principles
Meadowbank School is committed to:-

  • Inspire a love of learning.
  • Encouraging children to meet challenges.
  • Fostering a strong feeling of belonging and respect, through the corporate life of the school.
  • Developing in children a sensitivity towards and acceptance of the rights of others in our multi-cultural society.
  • Enhancing learning by establishing a partnership with, and being responsive to the educational needs and wishes of our school's community.
  • Promoting the values of honesty, integrity, tolerance and respect.
  • Developing the self esteem and feeling of self worth of all students.
  • Adhering to the principles of the National Education Goals and the National Administration Guidelines.
  • Following the prescriptions of the New Zealand Curriculum Framework.
  • Taking all reasonable steps to see that the School Vision is a living document.
  • Ensuring all reasonable steps are taken to provide instruction in tikanga and te reo Maori for full-time students whose parents ask for it.

Strategic Goals
The current Strategic Plan was developed by the Board of Trustees in 2006 after consultation with staff and community. It focuses the school's direction through to 2012. Its core goals are:-

  1. Continue to achieve excellence in literacy and numeracy as monitored by robust measures.
  2. Encourage innovation and enterprise in curriculum development and delivery. 
  3. Integrate environmental education across curriculum programmes 
  4. In partnership with parents, develop adaptable and successful citizens, fostering essential life skills.
  5. Enrich our school through positive links with the Meadowbank Community, other organisations and schools.

Annually the Board of Trustees consults with community and staff to:-

  • Review the Strategic Plan and its Goals
  • Develop its Annual Plan

Student Achievement Goals
The following goals are the performance indicators listed in the School Scheme.

1. 80% of students will:-

  • Spell at an age-appropriate level in Years 3 to 6.
  • Read fluently and interpret levels of meaning at or above their chronological age.
  • Score in the average to superior score range for National Standardised Tests (PAT, PRETOS, STAR, Information Skills)
  • In Numeracy Project be at the following stages
    -  Stage 4 (Advanced Counting) in addition and subtraction by the end of Year 2
    -  Stage 5 (Early Additive) by the end of Year 4
    -  Stage 6 (Advanced Additive) by the end of Year 6
  • Achieve the following standards in school mathematics tests by the end of Year 6
    -  90% or better in Basic Facts
    -  80% or better in Computation

2. Ensure student achievement matches or exceeds the school's historic assessment data regarding the development of age appropriate skill levels in the following areas:-

  • Writing and in oral language, developing vocabulary, cohesive sentence structure and control over a variety of text types
  • In all strands of Mathematics, developing concepts, problem solving strategies, understanding and attitudes
  • Science inquiry and investigate skills
  • Technological skill capabilities
  • Social Studies inquiry skills
  • Physical Education skills in the areas of swimming, athletics and ball activities in The Arts, in the areas of music and visual art

3. There should be no significant difference in the levels of achievement for different gender and ethnic groups.

Annually the Board of Trustees, via Management conducts assessment and data-driven self review of student achievement and curriculum delivery practices. These are to be included in the School's Annual Report.
