STUDY AT MEADOWBANK

Key Programme Features
Up to 25 students.
All International Students are accommodated in a mainstream class.  They will receive extra in-class support from a teacher's aide.
In the mainstream class students have full inclusion of all aspects of learning, receiving the identical high quality programme and opportunities received by all other students.
Mainstream class numbers vary but most have between 25 adn 30 students.
Programe Goals 
 To provide a quality programme for International Students seeking to learn English.
 To increase the international awareness of Meadowbank students.
 To enhance the cultural diversity of Meadowbank School.
 Provide a broader funding base to enhance learning programmes for all students at Meadowbank School.

Applications     
When seeking enrolment, the following process will be followed
 Prior to Enrolment
- The International Student Enrolment Form and Declaration is completed.
- A copy of the Student's passport must be sighted.
- School Management will consider all applications.
 Upon Acceptance
- The full tuition fee is to be paid.
- The school will issue a receipt for the Tuition Fee and a letter to the NZ Immigration Service advising of the school's offer of placement.
 Prior to Commencement
- The full tuition fee must be received.
- NZ Immigration Student Visa issued.
- Evidence of Medical and Travel Insurance must be sighted.

Pastoral care of International students     
 Meadowbank School has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from the school or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at http://www.minedu.govt.nz

Immigration      
 Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at
http://www.immigration.govt.nz

COSTS       
Tuition :    $2,812.50 incl GST per term (includes Ministry of Education and    administration costs) with a minimum 2 term enrolment period.

Tuition charges also include an initial stationery pack and special activity charges (eg trips, visiting performers, Life Education, waterwise). In Term 1, Year 6 students attend an Outdoors Camp. For this there is an additional cost of approximately $150.

 Uniform : Uniform is compulsory at Meadowbank School. Please allow $100-$200 depending upon items purchased.

 Health and Travel : Most students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. We require that you have insurance that will cover the cost of medical treatment for the duration of your stay in New Zealand. We also require that you obtain insurance to cover your travel to and from New Zealand. We recommend that this be taken out in New Zealand.

Accommodation      
In keeping with government legislation Meadowbank School will only enrol students who will be living with their parent(s) throughout their education at Meadowbank.

Orientation      
 On their first day at Meadowbank, students will:-
- meet key staff (Teacher, Principal, School Secretary)
- meet their New Zealand student buddy.
- Have a familiarisation tour of Meadowbank School becoming aware of the location of key features for them.
- Receive advice on school activities including sport and music.

Reporting to parents      
 Each year Meadowbank School provides at least TWO written reports on the student's progress. International Students receive an ESOL report which has been specifically designed to reflect their programme of instruction and their academic and linguistic progress.The report will include comment and grades for the student's
- Academic progress
- Emotional well-being and social progress of the student.
 Each year Meadowbank School conducts at least TWO formal Parent Teacher Interview evenings. 

Grievances      
 Meadowbank School undertakes to treat all complaints raised by students, parents or designated caregivers seriously and will investigate.
 The International Education Appeal Authority is available if you believe Meadowbank School has not dealt with an issue fairly.
 Issues with teachers
If there is a problem with your son / daughter's teacher, please talk to the teacher. You can make an appointment to see the teacher by calling the school office and asking to talk to the teacher.
 Issues with fellow students
If there is a problem with another student, please tell your son / daughter's class teacher, or the Principal. You can make an appointment to see the teacher or the Principal by calling the school office.
 
If you have seen the appropriate person(s), but the issue has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please see the Principal.
 
If you are still not satisfied, you can write to the School Board of Trustees.

You must be able to show the International Education Appeal Authority that you have told the school about the problem before you contact them.

Termination of Contract      
 Meadowbank School can terminate enrolment in the event of
- continued and / or unexplained absenteeism
- disruptive behaviour
- criminal behaviour
- a false declaration being made prior to enrolment

Withdrawal from programme      
 Students wishing to withdraw from the programme must advise the school at least three weeks in advance.
 The school refund policy will apply when a student withdraws.

 Refunds   
 Prior to Commencement : Full refund minus an administrative charge of $500.
 Full Year Course (4 terms) :
-   Prior to Second Half -   50% minus percentage of the course completed.
-   During Second Half -   No refund. Only if the school breaches the contract.
 Courses Less Than 4 Terms : Generally no refund but applications will be considered by the Board of Trustees.
 No refunds will be made to students (or their parents) where
- The student has been expelled.
- Where the student (or parent) have breached the terms of the contract.
 Students gaining permanent residence during course : Refund will be from the end of the term in which they gain residence minus a $500 administration charge.

NB : If residency status changes during the course enrolled, parents / students will need to apply for re-enrolment at Meadowbank School as a domestic student.
