ICT at Meadowbank

ICT at Meadowbank 2009

The tail end of 2008 saw Meadowbank make a significant investment in ICT infrastructure and equipment.  We have upgraded our servers to meet the growing storage requirement of our students and teachers.  We have increased the number of fibre connections between both sides of the school to speed up the movement of the increasing amount of data that we create, reflecting just how much the junior students are using ICT in their classrooms.  In addtion we have increased the capacity of two key switch cabinets to allow us much needed expansion room for 2009 and the future.

Perhaps the most visible improvement is the Smart Boards and data projectors that are in every classroom along with new computers.  We are expecting some interesting advances this year from both our students and our teachers, who knows where we will be by term 4?

Blogging at Meadowbank

Student Blogging

Meadowbank staff have discovered the value of using a blog in their classroom.  The introduction of blogging as a tool for tracking staff PD has quickly become a classroom tool.  The advent of web 2.0 tools such as Bubbleshare, Fickr, Teacher Tube and the myriad of other aggregator widgets such as Clustr Maps have enabled teachers to share student work to a wider audience.

For the students, the benefit has been that their work now has a greater reach and a more authentic audience.   Students are critiquing the work of other students.  Parents and the wider communtity can see and comment on what the students are doing.  Not only that links are being made with other schools from all over the globe, making the audience for student work at Meadowbank truly global.  Widgets such as Clustr Maps truly demonstrate this, students can keep track not only of the number of visitors, but their geographical location.  The work that the students are now doing on the blogs has a meaningful purpose and a genuine audience.

Keep returning to this page to keep track of the growing list of blogs.  Click on the links below to visit the individual blogs.
