Student Blogging
Meadowbank staff have discovered the value of using a blog in their classroom. The introduction of blogging as a tool for tracking staff PD has quickly become a classroom tool. The advent of web 2.0 tools such as Bubbleshare, Fickr, Teacher Tube and the myriad of other aggregator widgets such as Clustr Maps have enabled teachers to share student work to a wider audience.
For the students, the benefit has been that their work now has a greater reach and a more authentic audience. Students are critiquing the work of other students. Parents and the wider communtity can see and comment on what the students are doing. Not only that links are being made with other schools from all over the globe, making the audience for student work at Meadowbank truly global. Widgets such as Clustr Maps truly demonstrate this, students can keep track not only of the number of visitors, but their geographical location. The work that the students are now doing on the blogs has a meaningful purpose and a genuine audience.
